Turbovert

When I started this project, I had acquired a couple of convertible chassis for a small sum. Not much to them. I had driven convertible RX7s before, and was always unimpressed - they were heavy and underpowered. I wanted to make mine lively like the original 2nd generation 1986 Sport, which was very light. Roughly 18 pounds per horsepower. The convertible tipped the scales at 350 pounds heavier... so I thought that I would add the turbo powerplant that was originally installed in the car outside of US markets. That brought the car to 15.4 pounds/HP... resulting in a faster car. Sounds good, right?

Would that it was so easy. Well, here's what I started with:

Things slowly progressed from there.

Good news, everyone...

The search for bodywork has been subverted. Just bought a 1991 'vert in great shape. New top, new leather interior, no rust. Now to swap the go-fast goodies, including engine, into it and recycle the old chassis. Wish it weren't so darn hot.
